# What Actorly can and cannot put back

Actorly can put back a fixed list of named fields on products, variants, collections, locations, markets, files and shipping profiles. A field that is not on that list cannot be restored by anyone, however the screen might look. Actorly Watch includes most of the fields on its one restore every 30 days, and Actorly Restore includes all of them. Everything else, such as orders, customers, inventory counts and themes, Actorly records but does not change.

## Which fields can Actorly put back?

The list below comes from Actorly's coverage list and the app's own restore list. The Recovery jobs page prints the same list under **What Actorly can put back**, a window with a section for each kind of record. The line beside **Preview changes** says how many fields can be put back. If the page and this table ever differ, trust the page.

Where a field shows "No" for Actorly Watch, the change window says "Included with Actorly Restore" in place of the restore button. The check is made on Actorly's server, not only by the button.

## How do I see the list in the app?

1 **Open Recovery jobs.** Choose **Recovery jobs** in the app's menu.

2 **Choose What Actorly can put back.** A window opens with a section for each kind of record and the fields Actorly can put back in a list under it. It says "Actorly only writes to your store for the fields listed here. Everything else it records but does not change."

3 **Read the line beside Preview changes.** It says how many fields can be put back and your plan's limit, for example "15 fields can be put back" and "Unlimited restores".

## What can Actorly not put back, and whose limit is it?

Some limits are Shopify's and some are Actorly's own choice.

WhatWhose limitWhat the app says

Inventory countsActorly's choiceActorly does not ask for permission to change stock quantities, "because stock moves for real reasons between a change and your review, so writing an old quantity back could create a false stock position."

OrdersActorly's choice"reverting a delivery address could send a real parcel to the wrong place, so it shows you what changed and leaves the decision with you."

CustomersActorly's choiceThe record belongs to your customer, and Actorly does not put a customer change back.

FulfillmentsNothing to put back"it is a carrier event, so there is nothing for Actorly to put back."

ThemesShopify's limit"Shopify lets an app change a theme only with an exemption that Shopify grants, and Actorly does not hold one." You can download your theme files as a ZIP on Actorly Restore.

Store settingsShopify's limit"Shopify gives an app no way to change these settings, so Actorly cannot write an earlier value back."

Metafield definitionsActorly's choiceRe-creating a definition would not bring back the values it held.

Policies, price lists, selling plans, menus, redirects, pages, blogs, articles, discounts, draft ordersNot offered yet or not offeredThe coverage table says Not yet or Not possible in the Restore column.

A product's handle, and shipping zones and ratesNot on the listThe summary window of a restore to a date and time lists them under "Does not cover".

A deleted itemNot offeredActorly cannot bring a deleted item back. It keeps the item's record and last recorded values, so you can see what it was and, on Actorly Restore, export them.

## How do I know whether a change can be restored?

Open the change in **Changes**. If the field can be put back and your plan includes it, the window offers **Restore this value**. If not, the **Restore** column gives one reason, in the app's words.

What the change saysWhat it means

Not on the restore listThe field is not one Actorly can put back. A **Why not** link opens the coverage window on that kind.

Protected, so it cannot be restoredActorly treats the field as protected customer data.

Never stored, so there is nothing to restoreActorly did not keep a value for it.

Added by this change, so there is no earlier valueThe field did not exist before this change.

Included with Actorly RestoreThe field is on the list, but your plan does not include it.

A newer change exists on this fieldA later change has been recorded on the same field, so restoring this one would conflict. Open the newer change. Actorly looks at the 50 newest changes for this, so a change it has not recorded is not caught here.

## What do Actorly Watch and Actorly Restore each include?

Actorly Watch includes one restore in any rolling 30 days, on the fields marked Yes above. Actorly Restore includes unlimited restores of every field on the list, and a separate way to put products back to a date and time. Available on Actorly Restore. Up to 500 fields in one go. Covers the fields Actorly can put back, which are listed in the app. Items deleted since then are left out, and so are fields Actorly has no recorded value for. A field someone has changed since you looked at the summary is not overwritten.

## If something goes wrong

- **A change that should be restorable has no button.** Read the reason in the Restore column. If it says "A newer change exists on this field", open the newer change.
- **A restore is refused with "Actorly cannot put this field back."** The field is not on the list. See the table above.
- **A restore is refused for shipping.** Actorly restores a shipping profile's name only when Shopify says the store uses legacy shipping. On a Markets store, or where Actorly cannot tell, it refuses and says "Nothing was changed."

For every other message, see [Restore one field to an earlier value](https://actorly.app/docs/put-a-value-back/restore-a-field) and [A restore did not finish: what to do](https://actorly.app/docs/put-a-value-back/a-restore-did-not-finish).

## A worked example

Sample: three changes in a row. A product's title changed: the window offers **Restore this value** on both plans. A product's status changed from Active to Draft: on Actorly Watch the Restore column reads "Included with Actorly Restore"; on Actorly Restore it offers the button. A page's content changed: the Restore column reads "Not on the restore list", and the **Why not** link shows the page's row in the coverage window with **Not yet** in the Restore column. The window is the answer for each; Actorly does not offer a restore by another route.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which fields does Actorly Watch not include?

A product's status, a variant's price and a collection's sort order need Actorly Restore. Watch includes the rest of the list on its one restore in any rolling 30 days.

### Can Actorly put back my inventory?

No. Inventory counts are recorded but not restorable, because writing an old quantity back could create a false stock position.

### Can I restore a theme?

No. Shopify lets an app change a theme only with an exemption Actorly does not hold. On Actorly Restore you can download your theme files as a ZIP and import it in your Shopify admin. See [Download a theme backup as a ZIP](https://actorly.app/docs/keep-export-and-delete-your-history/theme-file-backup).

### Can Actorly restore an order or a customer?

No. It never changes an order or a customer.

### Why is a handle not on the list?

The summary window of a restore to a date and time lists it under "Does not cover". Actorly gives no further reason.

### Does a field being tracked mean it can be restored?

No. Tracking and restoring are different columns in the coverage table. A kind can have History set to Yes and Restore set to Not possible.

### Where is the authoritative list?

On the Recovery jobs page, under **What Actorly can put back**. It is generated from the app's restore list.
