Shopify store settingshistory.

Actorly records changes to your store settings, shipping profiles, markets and locations, with the old value, the new value and the time. Shopify gives no app a record of who made these changes, so Actorly shows what changed and when, and says Unknown for who.

What is recorded, part by part.

PartWhat Actorly recordsPut it back
Store settingsStore name, contact email, account email, currency, timezone, weight unit, tax handling, primary domain, store owner, Shopify plan, and the date each legal policy was last edited. Not possible. Shopify gives an app no way to change these settings.
Shipping profilesThe profile name, its shipping zones with the countries each covers, and every rate with its price. The profile name only, and not on a store whose shipping has moved to Markets.
MarketsName, handle, whether the market is active, and its web presence: the domain or subfolder, its default language and every alternate language it serves. The market name only.
LocationsName, address, active status and whether a location fulfils online orders. The location name only.
PoliciesEach policy's title, body and public link, with the value before and after. Found on a scheduled check: weekly on Watch, daily on Restore. Not offered yet.

Changes worth a look.

  • A change to either email address is worth reviewing, because it is also what a takeover looks like.
  • Deactivating a location removes its stock from every sales channel.
  • Disabling a market removes a whole country from checkout, and a market losing its domain or a language it served is a change worth finding the time of.
  • A location with no shipping rates cannot ship, so Actorly tracks that count too.

Actorly shows the time of each change. It does not say that one change brought on another; the history gives timing, and the judgement stays with you.

Why there is no name.

Shopify's activity log has no entry for store settings, shipping profiles, markets, locations or policies, so Shopify gives no app a way to learn who changed them. For these Actorly can tell you what changed and when, but not who. The answer is Unknown from the start, and Unknown is never replaced by a later guess. That is Shopify's limit, not work left to do.

What Actorly does not cover at all.

Shopify's limit
  • Payment settings: Shopify shows you payment changes in your own admin but does not give that record to apps.
  • Notification templates: Shopify has no API for the content of your email and SMS notification templates.
  • Staff accounts: reading staff account changes needs a scope Shopify only grants to some stores after a direct support request, and Actorly does not hold it.
  • Checkout branding: readable only on Plus and development stores.
Actorly's choice
  • Checkout configuration.
  • Tax settings.
  • Gift cards.
  • Legacy script tags.

The record starts the day Actorly is installed. It cannot show what your store looked like before that.

Seeing is free. Actorly Watch costs $0 and keeps three months of change history and one restore a month. Actorly Restore is $29 a month or $240 a year, with unlimited history while you stay on Restore, unlimited single-field restores and export. Shopify bills it on your usual invoice, never per change. There is no trial: Watch is the free plan, with no clock. See pricing.

Questions.

Can I see who changed a Shopify store setting?

No. Shopify does not record who changed a store setting, so Actorly shows what changed and when, and the answer for who is Unknown.

Can I put a store setting back?

No. Shopify gives an app no way to change these settings, so Actorly cannot write an earlier value back.

Does Actorly track shipping rate changes?

Yes. It records a shipping profile's name, its zones with the countries each covers, and every rate with its price, with the value before and after. Shopify does not record who changed it.

Can I see when a market was disabled?

Yes, from the day Actorly is installed. A market's name, handle, whether it is active and its web presence are recorded, with the old and new value.

Does Actorly track payment or tax settings?

No. Payment settings are Shopify's limit: it does not give that record to apps. Tax settings are Actorly's choice: it does not request access to tax configuration.

How long is history kept?

Actorly Watch keeps three months (90 days) of change history. Actorly Restore keeps history for as long as the store stays on Restore and Actorly stays installed. If a store moves from Restore to Watch, history older than 90 days is deleted after a 14-day notice, and upgrading again does not bring it back.
