Upgrade, downgrade or cancel Actorly

Shopify does the billing for Actorly: the charge appears on your usual Shopify invoice, and you choose monthly or yearly and change plan or cancel on Shopify's own plan page. Moving from Actorly Restore to Actorly Watch keeps your last 3 months (90 days) of history and removes older history after a 14-day notice, for good. Upgrading again does not bring it back.

What do I need to know first?

  • Actorly builds no billing screen and takes no payment. "Billing is handled entirely by Shopify and appears on your normal Shopify invoice."
  • There is no trial. Actorly Watch is free, "Free forever, no trial and no countdown". Actorly Restore has no trial.
  • Nothing is charged per change. A busy store pays the same as a quiet one.
  • On a development store Shopify's own plan screen says "These plans are free to test on this store."
  • A plan Actorly cannot read is treated as Actorly Watch, and Actorly says so.

How do I upgrade to Actorly Restore?

1Open Account. Choose Account in the app's menu.
2Find the Plan section. On Actorly Watch it shows the Actorly Restore card with Upgrade to Restore. On Overview, Manage plan in the Store and plan block opens Shopify's plan page directly.
3Choose Upgrade to Restore. Shopify's plan page opens.
4Pick monthly or yearly. Actorly Restore is $29 per month, or $240 a year. Approve the charge on Shopify.
5Come back to Actorly. Actorly re-reads your plan from Shopify, and the Plan section shows Current plan on Actorly Restore.

An upgrade takes effect straight away. History from then on is kept without limit, Restores left on Overview reads Unlimited, and export, restore to a date and time, and theme ZIPs become available. History that was already removed under Watch's window is not recreated.

How do I downgrade to Actorly Watch?

1Open Account. Choose Account in the app's menu.
2Read the warning first. Beside the Watch plan the page says "On Actorly Watch, changes older than 3 months are removed 14 days after you switch."
3Export first if you want a copy. On Actorly Restore, build an export. An export holds only the history Actorly still has.
4Choose Downgrade to Watch. Shopify's plan page opens. Choose Actorly Watch.
5Watch for the notice. After Actorly confirms the switch, a banner on every page reads "Older history will be removed on" a date, and the Notifications bell says "Your plan keeps 3 months of history. Changes older than that will be removed from" the same date.
WhenWhat happens to your history
The day you switch to WatchNothing is deleted yet. The 14-day notice starts when Actorly first sees a confirmed Watch plan.
During the noticeEvery page shows "Older history will be removed on" the date, and a notification says "Your plan keeps 3 months of history. Changes older than that will be removed from" the date.
If you upgrade again during the noticeA confirmed Actorly Restore plan clears the notice and nothing is deleted. The banner goes at once. The bell keeps the warning until the daily clean-up runs, which can take up to a day.
After the noticeHistory older than 90 days is removed, once and for all, in a daily clean-up, in stages. Changes that a restore refers to are kept. The clean-up then runs every day and removes anything older than 90 days, without a second notice.
If Actorly cannot confirm your planNothing is deleted. A purge runs only for a store with a confirmed Watch plan read recently.

After it, Changes says "Outside your plan's history", the cells say "History removed", Overview says "Before {date}: removed", and an export says that removed history cannot be brought back. See How long Actorly keeps your history, and storage.

How do I cancel?

Cancel on Shopify's plan page or in your Shopify admin. Shopify ends a paid subscription at the end of the paid period: during it the store stays on Actorly Restore, and after it the store resolves to Actorly Watch, with the same downgrade notice. Actorly does not bill you: Shopify handles the charge when you cancel or uninstall.

Within 30 days of the end date, the Account page says "Your plan ends soon": "Shopify has this subscription set to end on {date}. To keep unlimited history and restores, renew it on Shopify before then." Uninstalling Actorly is a separate step with its own timing. See Uninstall Actorly and what happens to your data.

What do the plan banners say?

BannerWhat it says
Actorly could not read your plan"This is a problem reaching Shopify, not a change to your plan. Nothing about your subscription has changed."
Actorly could not confirm this plan with Shopify"The plan shown below is the safest assumption Actorly can make, not a confirmed answer. If you are on a paid plan, your access is unaffected while this resolves."
Your plan ends soon"Shopify has this subscription set to end on {date}. To keep unlimited history and restores, renew it on Shopify before then."
Older history will be removed on {date}"Your plan keeps 3 months of history. Changes older than that will be removed from {date}. Actorly Restore keeps all of your history."

If something goes wrong

  • You paid and still see the old plan. Actorly confirms your plan by reading it from Shopify, and the read can lag. If it fails, the page says "Actorly could not confirm this plan with Shopify" and shows the safest plan.
  • The page says "Actorly could not read your plan". Actorly could not read the plan record it holds for your store. This is not a change to your subscription. Try again shortly.
  • History you expected is gone after a downgrade. It was older than the plan's window and the notice period had passed. Upgrading again does not bring it back.

A worked example

Sample: you are on Actorly Restore and decide to move to Watch on March 1. On Account the Watch card warns that changes older than 3 months are removed 14 days after you switch. You build an export first. You choose Downgrade to Watch and pick Watch on Shopify's page. When Actorly confirms the plan, a banner reads "Older history will be removed on" March 15, and the bell gives the same date. On March 10 you decide you miss unlimited history and upgrade again: Actorly sees a confirmed Restore plan, clears the notice, and nothing is deleted. Had you waited until after March 15, history older than 90 days would have been removed, and upgrading would not bring it back.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the invoice?

On your usual Shopify invoice. Plan names appear as "Actorly Watch" and "Actorly Restore".

Does downgrading delete my history at once?

No. History older than 90 days is removed after a 14-day notice, in stages. After that notice, the daily clean-up keeps removing anything older than 90 days, without a second notice. If Actorly cannot confirm your plan, nothing is deleted.

Can I get older history back after I downgrade?

No. Upgrading again does not bring removed history back. Build an export on Restore before you switch.

What does the yearly plan cost?

Actorly Restore is $29 per month, or $240 a year.

Why does the Account page say my plan could not be confirmed?

Actorly could not reach Shopify to confirm it. This is not a change to your subscription. Try again shortly.

Will I still be charged after I uninstall?

Actorly does not bill you, so any charge is Shopify's. Cancel on Shopify's plan page or in your Shopify admin.

Can I choose Actorly Watch without Shopify's page?

No. Choosing a plan, including the free one, happens on Shopify's page.
