How do I check whether Actorly is recording?

What do the status badge words mean?
| Badge | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Watching | Actorly is recording changes. "Checked N seconds ago" says how long ago the status was last checked. The badge also says Watching while one kind has failed or a gap exists, so read the banner and Needs your attention too. | Nothing, unless a banner or Needs your attention says otherwise. |
| Still importing | The first read of part of your store is running. Counts for those kinds are incomplete until it finishes. | Wait. Overview lists what is still importing. |
| Import failed | Every kind Actorly tried to import failed. The empty page says "It is not retrying automatically yet". If only one kind failed, the badge stays on Watching and a banner on Overview and Changes names it. | Note the kinds Overview names, and contact support. |
| Cannot read history | "The last read of your change history did not complete, so what is shown may be missing changes. Nothing here says that nothing changed." | Choose Try again on Overview or Changes. If it repeats, contact support. |
What can an empty or short list mean?
Actorly tells most of these apart, because an empty page can mean several different things. Rows 3 and 8 have no words on any empty page: they are things to check yourself. A page that is complete, with nothing recorded yet, says "No changes yet".
| # | What you see | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | "Nothing is being watched yet" or "Still building your history" | Nothing was watched yet, or the first import is running. "This is not the same as nothing having changed." |
| 2 | "That import did not finish" | "Actorly tried to import this history and it failed. It is not retrying automatically yet." The page says this when every kind failed. |
| 3 | A kind that is not in the What Actorly watches table | This kind of record is not tracked. Not yet and Not possible are never recorded. |
| 4 | "Outside your plan's history", "History removed" | The history before a date was removed under your plan's window. "Removed history cannot be brought back." |
| 5 | "No changes match these filters", "Nothing recorded in" a range, Nothing matches "your words" | "Your history has not changed, this view of it has." Choose Clear filters. |
| 6 | "We could not read your history" or "Actorly could not read this list just now. That does not mean it is empty." | A problem reaching your history, not a statement about your store: "That is not the same as nothing having changed: we do not know." |
| 7 | "Deletions are not being confirmed for some resources" or "No deletions seen" | The check for deleted records is behind or does not cover that kind. "An empty list does not mean nothing was deleted." |
| 8 | A change you made before you installed | Actorly records changes from install. Actorly has no before-and-after values for changes made before it was installed, and cannot put those values back. |
Choose the row that matches the words you see. If none does, see A change I made is not showing in Actorly.
What do the banners and Overview warnings say?
| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| A banner listing kinds | The true ledger conditions in one banner: a failed import, an unreadable ledger, kinds not started, kinds still importing, and a missing permission. A gap is its own banner only when nothing else applies, and otherwise shows as the marker beside the badge. Only a failed import is red. |
| "Actorly could not finish watching these" | Import failed for the kinds named, and changes to them are not being recorded. |
| "Actorly has not started watching these yet" | Not yet being tracked. Changes to these are not being recorded, and Actorly cannot show history for them. |
| "Actorly is still building your store history" | Lists what is still importing. Changes to these appear once their baseline is complete. |
| "Could not be read right now" | An empty block says this when Actorly has not finished reading, instead of saying nothing changed. |
| "Some checks could not be read right now, so Actorly cannot say nothing needs attention." | The Needs your attention block could not be fully read, so it does not show All clear. |
| "This list may be out of date" | "The last refresh did not complete, so these rows are from the last successful read." |
| "This list could not be loaded" | "Actorly could not read this list just now. That does not mean it is empty." |
A gap says "N changes could not be added to your history". See Some changes could not be added to your history.
What should I check, in what order?
A worked example
Sample: you open Changes on the day you installed and it says "Still building your history". The badge reads Still importing and Overview lists Products among the kinds still importing. An hour later the badge reads Watching. You edit a product's title: Changes shows a row, and Who reads Not attributed yet. Later you open Changes with only Last 7 days chosen and it says "Nothing recorded in Last 7 days". That is reason 5: the badge reads Watching and the history is complete, so it means nothing was recorded in that window, not that nothing is wrong. With a type filter such as Collections added, the page would say "No changes match these filters" instead. Had the badge read Cannot read history, the same page would have said "We could not read your history", which is reason 6.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Changes say nothing recorded when I have older history?
The default view is the last 30 days. If your history is ready and that window is quiet, Actorly says "Nothing recorded in" the range, not "No changes yet". Choose All time to see the rest.
Does an empty list mean nothing changed?
Not on its own. Actorly separates a quiet store from an import that is still running, one that failed, and a read that did not complete.
Where do I see these as they happen?
On Overview under Needs your attention, in the badge, and in the Notifications bell.
Is Actorly retrying a failed import?
The page says "It is not retrying automatically yet." Contact support with the kinds it names.
What does Checked N seconds ago mean?
It says how long ago this status was last checked. It is not a count of changes.
Why does Overview show a dash instead of 0?
A count over an incomplete history is a dash with the reason, never 0, because 0 would say nothing happened.
