A change I made is not showing in Actorly

A change may not show for one of a handful of reasons, and most of them are not a fault: Actorly may not track that kind of record, it may be a kind checked on a schedule (weekly on Actorly Watch, daily on Actorly Restore), the first import may still be running, or a filter may be hiding it. Check them in the order below. Each one says what Actorly tells you, so you know which applies.

How do I find out why a change is missing?

1Check the filters. In Changes, the Timeline opens on Last 30 days. Choose All time and Clear all, then search again. Search finds words that start with what you typed, so "prod" finds "product". If nothing matches, the page says why. With a search it says Nothing matches your words, with a type, person or kind filter it says "No changes match these filters. Your history has not changed, this view of it has.", and with only the date range it says "Nothing recorded in" that range.
2Check the kind. Open What Actorly watches on Overview. If the kind is not in the table, it is not recorded. If its History cell says Not yet, it is planned and not built.
3Check whether it is a scheduled kind. Pages, blogs, articles, menus, URL redirects, price lists, policies and files are re-read on a schedule, because Shopify sends no change notice for them. A change appears at the next check: weekly on Actorly Watch, daily on Actorly Restore. These kinds are marked Checked on a schedule.
4Check whether the import is still running. If the badge says Still importing, or Overview lists the kind under History still importing, changes to that kind appear once its first import finishes.
5Check when you made it. Actorly records changes from the day you install it. Actorly has no before-and-after values for changes made before it was installed, and cannot put those values back. Orders, customers, fulfillments, draft orders and selling plans are recorded only from their first change after you install. History older than your plan's window is outside your plan.
6Check for a gap. If Overview shows a banner "N changes could not be added to your history", some changes could not be added. See Some changes could not be added to your history.
7Check the Deleted tab. A deletion is on the Deleted tab, not the Timeline. See Find a deleted product or other item.

Which reason is it?

The usual reasons for an empty list apply to a missing change.

ReasonHow you recognise itWhat to do
The filter or the date hides itThe page says "No changes match these filters" or "Nothing recorded in" a rangeClear all, choose All time
The kind is not trackedIt is not in the What Actorly watches table, or its History says Not yetNothing: Actorly does not record it
It is a scheduled kindThe kind carries Checked on a scheduleWait for the next check
The import is runningThe badge says Still importingWait
The import failedA banner on Overview or Changes names the kind that could not finish. The badge says Import failed and the page says "That import did not finish" only when every kind failedContact support
It is older than your plan keepsThe page says "Outside your plan's history"See How long Actorly keeps your history, and storage
It was made before you installedThe change is older than your install dateActorly records changes from install. Actorly has no before-and-after values for changes made before it was installed, and cannot put those values back.
It could not be recordedThe Overview banner "N changes could not be added to your history", the marker beside the badge, or a notificationNothing to fix; see the gap article

What if the field itself is not recorded?

For many kinds, the History cell says Some fields, never all fields. Actorly records a stated set of fields. A field outside that set is not recorded, even when the kind is. The coverage table's notes and the Data room page for the kind, under About this data, say which fields are held.

Why can a change take time to appear?

How a change gets in depends on the kind.

KindHow Actorly learns of itWhen it appears
Most kinds, such as products, variants, collectionsShopify sends a notice, and Actorly reads the record again.Overview's Recent changes caption states a short delay for these kinds; this guide does not promise a time. These kinds are also re-checked every week in a full check. Orders and customers are not.
VariantsShopify reports a variant change through its product's update. If that notice is missed, the weekly check finds the change, "up to a week later and with no name attached".
Inventory on an item that does not track inventoryShopify sent no stock-change notice in Actorly's testing. At the weekly check, with no name.
Pages, blogs, articles, menus, URL redirects, price lists, policies, filesActorly checks on a schedule. At the next check: weekly on Watch, daily on Restore.

A change found by a check carries the source Routine check, and the time Shopify reports is when the record last changed there.

What do I tell support if it is still missing?

The item's name, what you changed, roughly when, and the kind of record. If the badge or a banner said something, include the words. You can start a chat from the footer: see Chat with Actorly support from inside the app.

A worked example

Sample: on Friday you edit a page title and rename a product. On Friday evening Changes shows the product rename but not the page edit. The page edit is a scheduled kind: on Actorly Restore it will appear at the next daily check, on Actorly Watch at the next weekly check, with the source Routine check. If you have Last 7 days chosen and the page says "Nothing recorded in Last 7 days", choose All time and Clear all before concluding anything.

Frequently asked questions

I edited a page and it is not in Changes. Why?

Pages are checked on a schedule: weekly on Actorly Watch, daily on Actorly Restore. The change appears at the next check.

The change is in my Shopify admin but not in Actorly.

Look in this order: the date and filters, whether the kind is tracked, whether the first import is still running, and the Deleted tab. If none applies, contact support with the item's name and the time.

Why does a customer or order change not show for the weeks before I installed?

Customers, orders, fulfillments, draft orders and selling plans are recorded only from their first change after you install.

Does Actorly Watch miss changes that Actorly Restore sees?

No. Both plans record the same kinds. Only how soon the scheduled kinds are noticed differs.

Why does the Deleted tab show the same date range?

The range you have is kept when you switch tabs, so the Deleted tab can say "Nothing recorded in Last 30 days". Choose All time.

Why is the time on a change a day later than I expected?

Today is the store's calendar day. Last 7, 14 and 30 days count back from now in blocks of 24 hours, and This month, Last month and Custom count UTC days, so a late change can fall on the next day at the edge of those ranges.

A change I made does not show a name. Is it missing?

No. The change is recorded; the Who column shows a confidence word, Not attributed yet or Unknown. See See who made a change, and how sure Actorly is.
