DocsPutting it back

Restore a Shopifyproduct field.

Open the change in Changes, choose Restore this value and confirm the exact value. Actorly writes that one field, then asks Shopify again to confirm the value took.

Put a value back in six steps.

1Open the change. In Changes, open the change that set the value you want back.
2Choose Restore this value. It appears on a change whose field Actorly can put back.
3Read the confirm panel. It shows the Field, what it is now in your Shopify store (read from Shopify at that moment) and what it will be put back to.
4Confirm. Choose Yes, restore it. You confirm the exact value; nothing is written before this.
5Wait for the read back. Actorly changes that one field, asks Shopify again what the field is now, and checks it matches.
6Check the result. The outcome is in the change's Restore history and on the Recovery jobs page. Only a value Shopify confirms is called Restored.

What a restore checks.

1Look. Actorly asks Shopify what the field is right now.
2Compare. If someone edited the field since you opened the restore, Actorly stops. It will not overwrite a change you have not seen.
3Confirm. You confirm the exact value that will be put back.
4Write. Actorly changes that one field, and nothing else.
5Look again. Actorly asks Shopify again what the field is now.
6Check. Only if the value Shopify now holds equals the value put back is it called Restored.
7Record. The result goes into your history, like any other change.

If a check before the write fails, nothing is changed. If the check after the write cannot confirm the value, Actorly says so and asks you to look at the field in Shopify.

What can be put back.

A product's title, status, vendor, type, description, theme template or tags; a variant's price; a collection's title, description or sort order; a location's name; a market's name; a file's alt text; a shipping profile's name.

The coverage page lists them with the plan each needs. A theme template is put back only if the live theme still has that template. A shipping profile is not restored on a store whose shipping has moved to Shopify Markets.

  • A variant price restore writes that variant's price only. A market price fixed to an amount is not touched; one set as a percentage moves with it. The compare-at price is not changed.
  • Restoring tags overwrites the whole tag list. Actorly shows which current tags it will remove first.

What cannot be put back.

It never changes an order or a customer, and it does not bring back a deleted item. There is no bulk restore and no restore to a date. Inventory counts, fulfillments, themes and store settings are not restorable either.

How many restores your plan includes.

Actorly Watch includes one restore a month, on basic product details. A product's status, a variant's price and a collection's sort order are Restore features. Actorly Restore includes unlimited restores of every field Actorly can put back.

Questions.

What if someone edited the field after the change?

Actorly stops before it writes. Someone edited the field since you opened the restore, and restoring now would have overwritten their change without you seeing it. Nothing is changed.

Can I restore a deleted product?

No. Deleted items are kept and shown, not recreated.

Can I restore everything to how it was last week?

No. A restore puts one field back at a time. There is no bulk restore and no restore to a date.

The restore did not complete. Is my store changed?

If a check before the write failed, nothing was changed. If the write was sent and Actorly could not confirm the value, your store may be unchanged or partly changed: look at the field in Shopify before trying again. The Job ID on the Recovery jobs page helps support find it.
